Then I thought how cool it would be to have the […]

On the site I want to cut down on customer contact (eg, emailing to ask if XYZ surname is available) - so I definitely want some sort of search box.
I have all the surnames in a txt file (I think there are about 50,000 surnames). So it's pretty large. A while back I […]

Obviously a printed surname certificate needs to be printed on something!  Plain white paper will do, but it's possible to buy pre-printed paper which is made by a company called "Deca Dry".
I ended up getting mine from my local stationers and from the local hobby/craft shop.  I'm also going to order in some specialist paper […]

Just a short note to remind myself of a good idea I had.
Once the "surname search" is coded, I want to try to link it into a twitter feed (so the tweets automatically appear). I found a Twitter PHP class at http://twitter.slawcup.com/twitter.class.phps which might do the job.

As I already mentioned I already used to run a surname site, so I have some knowledge of the available software.  As I recall the software I used to use was Australian in origin and it was fairly good.  But for this new site I want to use something different.  A little bit of research […]

First stop will be to go to the Layout Gala to get a pre-made design template.  I will use this as a base and come up with some graphics and layout ideas to make it more pretty.
For […]

So, having made the decision to use the blog as a way to show how to think up a website and show the day by day evolvement of it, my next stage was to brainstorm an idea for a website.
My first idea was to choose a piece of software that lots of people use and […]

OK, so it's been a few years since this blog was really rocking, so my idea is to get this blog going again.  How to do that?  Well, it's pretty easy, just make a post every day.
But what to blog about?  I don't really want to use the blog to sell things as there are […]
