Site Idea - incremental pricing

I had a cunning idea that I think could be worth a shot.  It'll only work for digital products, but that's OK as all I sell is digital products at this moment.

Incremental pricing…

So, let's say I have a "purple widget" which is a digitally downloadable product.  On the 1st of the month, people can buy for $1.  On the 2nd, it'll cost $2 and so on, up until the 31st on which it'll cost $31.  This is super simple to code up, it's only 1 line of PHP allied to a Paypal button.

Then on the 1st of the month after, a NEW product is released for $1 (on the 1st) and so on.  The previous months product is now costing $100 (or whatever). Does that make sense?

Conclusion

My thought is that this gives a really good benefit to "early adopters" of a product.  Those early adopters might also like to earn money from pimping the product as an affiliate (after all, if they buy on the 1st, it takes a tiny amount of promotional effort to get their money back!).
What do you think?

Interesting idea, and one I have considered myself before (though my idea would have the price increasing every time a sale was made).

Well, I liked the concept so much that I decided to do something about it. I'll make a blog post about it tomorrow.
