Google Referrals

Late to the game on this one, but I might as well give my thoughts on Google Referrals…these are basically adsense links which pay out based on what the person who clicked through does.  Eg, you might get an Adsense payout if they buy a product, or sign up to a service and so on.

Well, I thought that the time is right to test a few pages using Google Referrals - I've selected one of my favourite blogs and have added a Referral to two of the posts.  In order to acheive this I used a simple php "switch" based on the $post->ID in question - if the post ID matches then it'll show a Referral, if not it'll show a normal Adsense block.

I first trawled cPanel to ascertain the most popular pages in my site - then made a list of the top 10.  I then trundled along to Adsense and spent some time looking for suitable Referrals - that was a chore.  In the end I found only two, hence two pages are in this experiment.

I'll update this thread each week to let you know what effect my adding Referrals has made to my bottom line.

Google - what is sorely needed

A better way to find matching Referrals - make it more like the usual contextual Adsense service, rather than have individuals spend time finding matching offers.

Even a keyword search brings up apparently unrelated referrals. If the quality is the same at the landing page, I doubt I would see much in the way of conversions.
