Cover your butt….
I recently registered two domain names incorrectly for a client - my first real error of this nature whilst working on the web. I hope that there won't be any fall-out (you might envisage that he had $500 worth of stationery printed or something like that) but it set me thinking and rushing to see what we have in our client contracts.
Fortunately the contract clearly states that we are not liable for such errors in our "limitation of liability" section and the issue of consequential loss is boxed off. We will of course reimburse the fee for the domains.
This then set me thinking about professional indemnity insurance as currently we are not covered. For around $300 you can cover yourself for around $2 million - for peace of mind I'd say this is a good deal and I will be purchasing later today.
For me its important to ensure that as a minimum you have a robust contract covering your trading activities and better still backed up with some solid insurance - for sure you'll need it one day!
What do you guys do?
Dave

Is there any info on that deal online? Is that £300 per month or per year? I'll admit I'm still trying to sort out insurance along with upgrading all of my paperwork to provide even further covering of problems or issues that may crop up.

Hi Sarah,
Yes there are a few on-line vendors coming out at about the same rate (its per year thankfully!) If you Google it you'll find 'em….
We also do work for a broker who provides all sorts of insurances - I'll check him out too. I posted similar in a couple of other forums - seems a bunch of us all want PI insurance! Maybe I can cook up a bulk deal - I'll let you know….

Definitely recommend some form of PI. It all very well have terms and conditions which say on paper you have limited liability, the question is can you afford a lawyer/solicitor to enforce them in a court of law?? (especially if they have not been drawn up by a appropriately qualified person)
