Post Level Text Link Ads

I notice that Text Link Ads now have the ability for a publisher to sell "space" on each post within a wordpress blog. You can read more about it. On that page, there is also a handy-dandy search facility which allows you to search blog posts to find any which match your criteria.

It seems to be a great idea - if you have a website or product which would fit well as a link on someone elses blog, why not pay for a listing! Easy as 123.

But, is this type of monetisation a step too far? Would it devalue the content? Would the advertiser get value for money? There's only one way to find out, and that is to sign up for Post Level TLA's. I don't fancy the idea of promoting other peoples stuff here on the osworld blog, at least not unless I can try the product/service being promoted. So, it's not somehting that I can sign up for…

Then Again…

However, I did have a think about promoting other sites in the Blog…*thinking out loud*…I have around 20 websites/products, which readers of this osworld blog would find at least halfway interesting ;) I'm pretty sure that Oli & Dave also have products/services to offer as well. And I am pretty sure that a number of osworld readers might also have products or services to promote.

Now, how about the possibility of having a seperate entry for each product/service being promoted, and these are randomly rotated on each page load. Seems to be a winner all round…hmmmmnn…

Isn't this another form of sponsored posting ala Pay Per Post?

Sort of, but not really. With PPP, people were writing posts based on teh subject of whatever they were getting paid for. With this system, the blogger writes his normal crap, then an advertiser might elect to pay for a link on it. I guess it amounts to the same thing, but from either end of the spectrum.

Actually it is neither of those scenarios. Post level text link ads just put a little unobtrusive text blurb below your post. The ones that are on my blog say "Related Post: and then about 25 words of keyword rich text with a link to the advertisers website"
As a publisher you don't have to embed the link in your post or anything. FYI …they don't seem to pay that great compared to the regular text link ads.
