$n - set your own price!

Some months ago, I created a digital product (it was in fact a couple of templates and 50 graphical headers, allowing the buyer to mix and match themes)…

Rather than set a price, I decided to let buyers set their own prices. I had lots of buyers ranging from payment of next to nothing ($1) to a "proper" amount ($50 or so).

I meant to remove the product from sale some time ago, but it slipped my mind…fast forward to today - and I receive a $1 payment for the product.

I couldn't really say "no" as it was my fault I had not removed the product from sale! I then had to hunt down the link where the buyer had found the product details.

I found the link in one of the private forums that I am a member of - and made a follow up post on the thread, stating that I should have destroyed the link months ago, and that if anyone is still interested I will leave the link up for 1 more day…

So far, this has led to a handful of extra sales (not a great deal of cash, but all the same, it's more people to add to the list!).

So, how about letting your potential customers set their own price for your next product? You might just be surprised at how little people want to pay out, yet even more surprised at how many sales you make.

It would have been interesting to see the amounts people decided on if each sale was made public… or at least the average amount paid…

Maybe I'll do it for the next product launch…would be interesting, wouldn't it..
