Computers are so complicated
Why are computers so complicated? I've been hunting around today for a computer that has a bit more ooomph - at present my main machine is a Dell that has a Celeron 2.66 processor and 2Gigs of Ram. All my other machines are less powerful as I keep them for spare parts/networking when I upgrade.
I recently purchased a new business and I need a new machine to run it on. I've been looking at purchasing a Bare Bones system (case, processor, memory, heatsink). After all, I have everything else that I can just plug into the new base unit, like my monitor, graphics card, mouse and what-not.
But, oh no, that's not possible. The memory I have is only "DDR", and most computers these days are "DDR2". I only bought this dell within the past year and the components are already out of date!
So, I need to a bare bones unit, then buy more RAM (I'll need 2 Gigs, perhaps even 4 Gigs). Oh, and a new graphics card, monitor, mouse etc. As I cannot pillage parts from this Dell, I'll simply give the whole thing away to my nephew. I suppose I'll end up just buying a whole PC Including all the extraneous rubbish of which I have loads already; mouse, keyboard, wires, monitors etc.
Why, oh why?
So, why does buying a computer have to be so excruciating? I'm pretty damn sure that computer (and accessory) makers come up with new technology asap in order to screw buyers out of more money. It's so damn annoying.
Consoles Marketing Genius
Therein lies the marketing genius of playstation, xbox, wii etc. You buy a console, take it home, plug it in and it works. Put in a disk and you can play a game. Easy as 123, ABC. If it goes wrong, you get it replaced in warranty. If my computer goes wrong, Dell won't fix it, as I upgraded a load of components already and invalidated the warranty. No big deal to be fair, but everything about a PC is so complicated and annoying.
I need to go and let off some steam I think ![]()

I suggest you take a look at Apple. The beauty of Macs has always been that everything is in the box, so there's no need to go getting any extras.

If computers weren't complicated, they wouldn't make us so much money

lol..
We are in the process of cleaning our house up so we can put it on the market.
We rented a storage unit and started filling up boxes, now like most of us I have bought a few pcs in my time, so I am now paying to store..
2 x 17 inch monitors still in their boxes
1 x 14 inch monitor which I was keeping Just in case
1 tub approximately 2 foot by 18 inches by 9 inches deep full of wires/cables/PC speakers
3 keyboards - all still in the boxes
Around 200+ cd's of programs and who knows what else
My last PC was actually more expensive if I bought it without the monitor and printer.. How pointless is that!
Maybe I should try and charge Best Buy storage for all the stuff I have that has never been used..hmmm
