Applications I use - Leech FTP
I was asked by one of my subscribers which programs I use on a daily basis. I thought this migt be a nice series of posts for the osworld blog as well. I went through my really old backups and found some pages which were written years ago, so I'll repost these over the coming days/weeks when I have nothing better to write about
Leech FTP
This post will instruct you on how to setup LeechFTP which is my recommended FTP client and is available from http://www.download.com/3000-2356-10122208.html
FTP configuration
Your normal view of LeechFTP when you first start it up, should resemble something like this:

In the left hand pane, you will see the Queue, Threads, Downloads and Failures tabs. These are for advanced users only. The middle pane shows the contents of your hard drive. The right hand pane (when connected) shows the contents of your webspace.
This image below is a larger portion of the picture above. You need to click on the icon that looks like a book (you are actually going to be setting up a bookmark in this tutorial).

This will bring up a smaller screen that should resemble something like this:

You should now click [ Edit ] and move down to [ Add Bookmark ]

This will bring up another screen (see below), where you are asked for some information about your hosting account (Host or URL, Username, Password) - these would have been sent to you by your host.

Now Press [ OK ]. This will take you back to the start screen, where all you need do to connect is double click the newly created icon.

Now, all you need do is read the help files supplied with LeechFTP in order to learn how to upload/download and CHMOD files.
Why Leech FTP?
It was the first FTP client I ever used, back in 1998/99. I have used it ever since as it does most everything I need an FTP client to do. It is also free of charge.
