Review Me

Review Me (RM) is a service that is a couple of months old, set up by the guys at Text Link Ads to directly compete against Pay Per Post (PPP).  The set-up is similar to PPP, but rather than the blogger choosing which "opportunity" to take, the person buying a RM spot pays for a review on a chosen blog.  The review can be about anything (legal) as far as I am aware.

It's a better system than PPP, in my opinion.  The cost is comparatively higher, for example this here blog at osworld would cost the buyer $100 per review. I've already stated that this blog will carry no such reviews or adverts.  If I like a product or service after trying it, I'll post favourably with an affiliate link.  If I don't like the product or service, I'll tell readers why and then provide a direct (non affiliated) link for your perusal - or, at worst, no link at all if the product/service is really, truly awful.

In my eyes, that's transparent.  I don't want to go down the route of being paid to review something.

When RM started, I guess an email went out to all Text Link Ads users advising them of this new adventure of theirs.  At that time I signed the blog up, in order to see what's what and how it compared to PPP (favourably, by the way).  And then promptly forgot about it.

RM Promotion

In recent days, RM have run a promotion for half price reviews, and this blog was "bought" by someone wanting a review.  An easy $100 for me.  No thank you.

Interesting Side Effect

An interesting side effect of being "bought" is that your blog gets featured on the home page of RM.  If you look on the right hand side of the Review Me site, you'll see the "Today's Best" column.  This blog actually stayed in that column for 2 days - I'm guessing that the column is based upon the value of the review and possibly some other factors.  I don't really know.

What this did bring is an extra 23 unique visitors over the course of the 2 days - not a great amount, but all the same, an interesting side effect.

Conclusion

RM has (at this moment) very few buyers.  For the blog to stay in the "best" column for 2 days, proves this.  Having said that, it's definitely an interesting service, one which I would utilise on other blogs I run.
