Domain Names

With this flipping exercise in progress, I am buying a range of top level domain names - so far I have com's, net's, biz's and org's. I don't want to go down to the country level (eg .co.uk, .de and so on) as the costs involved with transferring such domains to a new owner is prohibitive.

The good thing about top level domains is that they are easy and cheap to purchase - the downside is that most of the good names are gone. My flipping exercise has a theme running through the domain names, which makes it harder to find a decentish domain. Ah well.

Anyway, what prompted me to post this was that I came across an entirely new (to me) domain name extension. .coop

I've never seen a website on a .coop domain before - in fact, I did not even know such a domain extension existed! There are only a few places to purchase a .coop - I'm not going to buy one as it'll be next to useless come selling time. Who wants a .coop domain after all? The only place I could find that sells .coop domains is www.domaine.fr at a cost of 115 Euros (about $115 / £60) per annum - mind you I spent less than 1 minute searching. No doubt there are cheaper prices.

.coop isn't an open TLD. You have to meet certain eligibility criteria, such as being a member of the National Cooperative Business Association or a member of the International Cooperative Alliance.
