Business Idea - Rent My Site
Just been thinking this one over in my head, but don't really have the time to impliment it at the moment. Therefore, it's there if anyone wants to take it
I havn't done any research at all, so this may well already have been done.
Basically, offer a service like Text Link Ads, but rather than sell just text links, sell space on a network of sites for the buyers to put whatever code they wanted on (Clickbank, Chitika, Adsense etc)
Prices per month would be based on current traffic, and the customers would not get to see the URLs of the sites until they'd actually bought ad space. Screenshots/mirrors could be provided to show what the site looks like.
Once they had made their payment, they would be "locked in" at that monthly price, and not have to pay more even if the traffic changed.
The customer would then be 100% responsible for driving traffic to the site. If they cancelled their monthly payments at any time, any new traffic gained from their actions would add to the price for the next customer.
This service could be advertised as a low cost, easy way to get in to affiliate marketing - and, when it had been built up a bit, a good way to get your affiliate code (or newsletter signup form or whatever) on a high traffic website.
Customers may also be given the option to purchase a site outright, if it turns out to be working well for them.
Thoughts?

I'm not sure it would be too effective - 2 problems strike me straight away:
- people who rent the site and then do the nastiest black hat link building etc that they can, and drop the rental when the value is gone
- screenshots are normally plaintext for me to find the site in question. So not supplying the URL to me would not be hiding anything, if you provided a screencap.
Sorry to be a downer! Keep on coming up with the ideas

Yes, sorry to say i don't think this would be a goer either - why would someone pay to rent a site and do the SEO when after 3 months (or another fixed period) of building the sites traffic the owner could just take it back.
Also agree with the points Lea raised.
Possibly a service where a space on your site to is up for rent to put a newsletter sign up box or affiliate links could possibly work though. I don't think i have seen that done before.

How about a service which offers to monetise a domain name;
~ customer supplies domain name and does promotion
~ you build the website based on the principle of maximising revenue
~ you hosts the site
~ revenue is split 50/50 or 70/30 or whatever…

This sounds like it could work to me and is another technique for utilizing virtual real estate. There are many people who would love to have just one webpage to do as they please. Lots of people don't know anything about html, web page design, etc. So I can definitely see a market for something like this.
