6 months of Wordpress

I've been using Wordpress for about 6 months on this blog. I think the decision to move from blogspot to a self-hosted Wordpress set up was the right one - I wish I had done it earlier (or not used blogspot at all).

As longer term readers will remember, I originally started blogging on the official osCommerce site - when that went pear-shaped, I set up on blogspot and used that for 9 months. When blogspot started playing up, I decide to make the move to Wordpress…

So, what of the last 6 months?

It took a good 4 months before I saw any search engine traffic to osworld.biz - there is no way to place a 301 redirect on blogspot pages, so this did not help.

Feedburner subscriber numbers are hovering at about 100 subscribers - surely there are not that many interested in my diatribes ;)

Alexa Rankings (I know they are useless) have climbed steadily and is now hovering at about 50,000. I read somewhere that having an Alexa Button on each page in the site can help with this, I am sure it does not affect ranking, so have placed a button for a month to see if there is any upward trend.
Technorati is likewise, hovering at about 50,000.

I believe that WP is much easier for the reader to deal with than BS is - case in point is the very restrictive nature of what can and cannot be done with the layout of Blogspot. As an example, I wanted to show the latest comments on Blogspot, but couldn't work out how to do it. With WP, it was a very simple addition.

It did take me some time to get used to the Admin Area of WP - it is quite complicated in my opinion, particularly when dealing with plugins. But, I think I have that mastered now.

In recent months, I've asked Dave and Oli to join me on this blog - as these two complement my own posting (and working) style. I hope you've enjoyed their input as much as I have.

Here's to the next 6 months :D

Cheers Burt, Got it working go check it out!

Another question, is how did you get your front page to have 'latest entry' 'last entry' etc on the home page?

Pretty cool bet you get tonnes of traffic.

    Oli,
Hiya!…Followed your link from Dan's site…I kept my Blogger blog at AnybodyButSara.com anfter I put it on it's own domain…Eventually I'll switch it into WordPress, too…But I like the Minima theme and until I find time to look for one similar, I simply put a redirect on the AnybodyButSara.com index.html to the Blogger blog so I do my posts on the old blog, but the most recent post always redirects as the new domain's front page…See?

    Lisa;)
