Second Life

Hearing a lot about this and it seems to be growing all the time. $400,000 (equivalent) spent in the last 24 hours. There are users making good cash in there primarily from designing accessories, clothing, housing etc for the characters but what other money making potential does it hold? Apparently one German woman has made $100,000 US this year alone.

Anyone delved in or thinking about it?

Weird you should post that…I've been looking into it today! I'd say if you have some design or coding skill, you'll be able to make money as you can design and script actions in the game which can then be sold on…haven't actually got involved yet because…well, I have a good normal life and spend too much time on the computer as it is!

Looks a lot like There0- it got some play a few years ago and then the fad died out. Turns out once the new wears off those virtual worlds they tend to be just as boring as the people in them :)

Of course with There I don't think you could get cash out.

I'm really glad you brought this into the arena of AIS. I recently bought http://www.disposalproject.com because I thought it had awesome opportunity as an AIS, but this just blows it away. I guess though they are for different audiences as DisposalProject is browser based so can be played at work!

I'd never heard of SL, but got myself an account and had a wnder around. I've nver been into games before, but this is really quite interesting.

Never played it myself, but it's big enough for Reuters to have an in-game news agency ;) http://secondlife.reuters.com/

I can't get my head around such people. Do they not have a "real life"?

    I can't sell stuff to people that I don't understand :(

I'm reluctant to delve in at the mo. for the same reasons as you chaps. I just can't get my head around that "virtual world" stuff.

Saying that, I reckon Second Life will continue to grow and with it, cash earning opportunities. If I had to guess, I reckon we might be revisiting it some time in the not too distant….
