Fruit Machines
A little off topic for this blog, but Gary has posted about fruit machines here before, so I guess it's fair game
An offline friend of mine has started a new blog, based losely on the "double your way to a million" idea, in which he will attempt to make £1000 by playing fruit machines.
Well, I've decided I wanted to win a £1000 from various fruit machines, effectively turning £1 into £1000. When I was younger I had a small addiction to fruit machines, many of you will argue that I'm still addicted to them now. However, now I know when to stop - as long as I bear in mind what I started out with, I cant lose anything - and who knows I might even have a little fun along the way!
You can track his progress over at http://slotmachineblog.blogspot.com/ - so far he's up £112!

He's going to have to get incredibly lucky to get to £1000 is all I will say!

This guy is a fool.
Upto £112 on a lucky punt, nothing more.

I wouldn't really say he's a fool, as long as you bear in mind that he's not doing it as a serious money making mission - rather, as a bit of fun (and to make a good story if he does it ;))

Sheesh, and people had a go at me for punting on sports. At least you have some chance of influencing your odds with sports. :-0.
I'm not sure how you can set goals on something like this? I'm assuming that these machines are the same as the infamous "pokies" we have here in Australia. You push a button, you win or you (more likely) lose.
My understanding with these machines is that they have a set payout percentage. For every $100 put in, they pay out something in the order of $85. Unless extremely lucky, this sort of scheme simply cannot be succesful.
This will be an interesting one to follow.

Not all Fruit Machines in the UK are set up to have a ratio of pay in to pay out. There are different settings that used in a certain combination can change pay outs to up to £100 for every £25 put in. It's very difficult to gauge which machines will pay out unless you have a lot of time to sit and watch them.
My brother & his friend George do very well on certain fruit machines. So well they've been banned from our local William Hill!
There are any number of tricks and combinations of buttons you can press to make things go your way, for example, when you get the chance to win nudges hold down the collect/cancel button and often it will slow down the speed on the lights etc…
There are ebooks out there containing lots of similar infomation and I believe it is possible to get big wins from a small input as I've seen it done.
My brother often doubles his weekly wages on 2 or 3 machines. You just have to have the knowledge and the timing.
Here's hoping Bean's got both!
