Stop buying stuff you don't need!

I'm a member of a couple of "Internet Marketing" forums - I also read quite a few blogs…the one thing that I see which needs to change is that a certain sector of people will jump from one idea to the next, buy product after product in the hope of "strikin' it rich"…

Internet Marketing simply does not work that way, here is a quote from one of the forums, which I found to be of immense value to others who might be wondering;

This [tool] is great, it's a great help for us to make some additional $$$ but if you think it's all about the tools that are availalble or that the internet is suddenly an easy place to make money because of them, without very serious effort, you are in the wrong place.

Put in same effort as [name of person] and you will make the big $$$ too…That's the main difference between him and those wondering "how come I'm not making that much"

This hits the nail right on the head - it's not what tools you use, it's how you use them. If you flit fromone idea to the next, there is no way that you can make a good success of anything. I know of people who will buy every new product that comes out, then never use them, or use them once and decide "not for me"…

So, what tools do you need exactly?Assuming you are looking at putting websites onto the internet, you need the follwoing;

  1. Hosting Account (from as little as $5 per month)
  2. Domain Names (from as little as $3 each)
  3. A FTP program (leechFTP is free of charge)
  4. Notepad (for creating your sites and your articles)

And that is it! This is enough to get you going! Of course, you might want to take a shortcut by spending more cash (eg purchase a site building program, or purchase PLR articles). But these are not needed!

Be smart, buy only what you need. If you cannot afford something - DO NOT BUY IT - it is very likely that within a month or two there will be a number of cheaper "copycats" trying to buy your business soon enough!

Burt's Sage Advice

From now on, do not buy *any* new tools unless you are 100% certain that they can help you to acheive your goals. If you are desperately in need of a certain tool, have a think about creating it yourself, or approach the site owner and barter! Bartering might work much better than you think! I've done this on many occasions, and probably 75% of the time an agreement is made!

Remember that Internet Marketing is not all about earning cash, it's also about saving cash on your outgoings!

    Sound advice there Burt, I'm an impulse buyer of the highest degree and buy most of my stuff on a whim.
    Oliver has implemented two rules to curb my spending habits. I'm not allowed to pick up anything else once I am in the queue and I have to trade my new purchase for something I no longer use (this one is rarely adhered to) but if I could simply follow the "don't buy what you don't need" rule then I'd probably save myself a whole rake of cash.

    However, it's easier said than done!

    My main problem is that I buy too many domains. I think we all suffer a little from that. :)

    I would add NVU for making sites. It's free and would make creating a site much easier than notepag for a beginner.
    It is not just that a new product might make you rich, it is the idea that it will make what you do (or should be doing) easier that often is just as much a trap. Kind of like that laziness you talked about last week.
