Get Rid Of Adsense…
You might have noticed that there is no Adsense on this Blog. I did have adsense on (for a short while) when the blog was a blogspot blog, but soon came to the conclusion that having adsense on this type of blog is an utter waste of time…
- Marketers blogs are generally aimed at other Marketers, Marketers are very adsense savvy.
- Smart Pricing! Search Google for more on that, also jensense has a good write-up on it.
What to do instead?
I have found that an excellent alternative to having adsense on a blog is to promote good affiliate products. Promoting good products leads to more conversation (always a good thing) and will make readers more aware of what is going on outside their own sphere of influence…
The point being
Adsense is not good for Blogs aimed at adsense-savvy people. My own findings over the course of the last year indicate that when I added adsense to my blog, my overall earnings went down, even though clicks went up!
Ask yourself;
- Do you really need those adsense blocks on your blog?
- Are they really bringing value to your readers?

Can you recommmend some of the affiliate programs you use. Or is it CJ or Azoogle Ads?
Nice blog by the way.

I agree, I don't have any AdSense on my blog either – it's a waste of time and space!

I made the same conclusion re: Adsense when I started NV. And I also thought it would improve the image and credibility of the blog not to be plastered with adverts.

Witnessed!
I removed all bar a big center block from my blog a while ago. It was one of my poorest sites for adsense income. A waste of space that could be better used for sticky content. Methinks this reminder should encourage me to remove the last lot as well.

I still have Adsense on my blog, but I'd have to agree that it is a waste of time on a marketer's blog. I think of it more as "ad blindness".
Until I have something to replace it with… I keep it there. But probably not for much longer.

A very good point. Not that my sites are doing very much yet anyway, but my blog on web development and marketing has never done anything with adsense.
Oddly, I have seen a few ads there that interested me, too bad its against TOS for me to check them out.

I have adsense on my blog – originally my blog was purely finance and targetted at everyday people, not marketers, but has since drifted into entrepreneurism. I still get a healthy number of clicks on my blog.

Hi, I've been one of your reader since last year and always love to read every post of your internet business journey. I wanna add something about adsense and smart pricing:
Quote: "My own findings over the course of the last year indicate that when I added adsense to my blog, my overall earnings went down, even though clicks went up!"
You should have some clicks on adsense ads on your blog but the conversion rate was low, right?- so that it cut down your overall sites' earnings (CPC) as the result of smart pricing.
Because if your blog CTR is low and your conversion rate is high, you may see that you get an increase in CPC (earnings).
So, no matter if a site doesn't get many clicks (low in CTR), as long as the conversion rate is high – but we never know how high the conversion rate is, because only google have the data – it won't make your overall earnings go down, instead, it will increase your overall earnings.
Conclusion to Gary's readers: do not remove your adsense ads from your low CTR site, because it may be one of your best converting sites. (unless you have test it like what Gary has done).
