Back In The Day

I was having a SkyPE conversation with an Internet Acquaintance I first "met" back in 1998. Of course, back then I was more interested in Yahoo Chat (of course upgrading to CheetaChat for the pretty colours) and Geocities pages than actually earning money..

Anyway, after some catching up, we got around to talking about old time Internet and the first real way to earn income by doing nothing (as I explained that I basically do noting to earn cash by AIS)…brought back some memories that I had forgotten!

The first amount of money I ever earned from the Internet was a US Dollar Cheque for $14.00 - from Alladvantage. Alladvantage was a short lived "paid to surf" program which was a little toolbar which chosed adverts which (somewhat) corresponded to the page you were looking at. It sounds like Google Adwords, but nowhere near as sophisticated…

If I recall, the payouts from alladvantage were dire, and after receiving that first cheque (of course I could nothing with it), I ended my involvement…

It would take another 4 years or so before I started to look at AIS again!

Back in 1998, my first Internet connected computer was a Pentium 2 - 300, 64 Meg of Ram and a 33k modem. No firewall, no anti-virus; the Internet was so new (particularly in the UK) that these things simply didn't matter! The computer had a 6.5Gig Hard Drive (which I never filled up!). I still have that old computer networked, of course it had lots of upgrades as the years went by, I believe the only original bit is the actual case!

There was no Google yet, the Search Engine of choice was altavista! And there was no always on connection, just a 3p per minute 33k dial-up…My phone bill per quarter was astronomical. Happy Days!

Ah, I remember Alladvantage, never actually saw a payout from them :(

My own first internet money came from one of those "ask an expert" sites - a cheque for about $5 IIRC, from one of those "ask an expert" sites - can't even remember what I did to earn it now :D

Same as Oli, never saw a payout. I swear I made a small fortune on my extravagant surfing with AllAdvantage, and a few other similar schemes.

My first money came from either Amazon, whom I first joined up with in '99, or Easily, getting £1 per domain, as a friend decided to register around 30 domains or so through my link!

I'm sure I've got around $100+ on various schemes or sites I've joined and made a handful of money on but never got the payout. Paid to read emails, paid to click, paid to surf…

I've been trying to find that AllAdvantage check/cheque. I'm pretty sure I have it filed away somewhere!

Yesterday going through some old notes I came across a small A5 sheet of paper with about 10-15 account logins on for various sites that I had set up for money making, one of which was AllAdvantage! Spooky timing eh :D
