Combatting Spam
I hate Spam comments on my blogs. I haven't received any for 4 days on this blog!
How? I installed "Math Comment" Spam Protection. I saw this in action over at Toxies Blog and thought it might help a bit with the amount of spam. Quite surprised to see absolutely no spam getting through at all!
Gotta be worth the 2 minute install time! Give it a go.

It didn't half cut down my spam count, only 6 got through since I added it with the redesign.

I bet you could modify it to make the math questions harder and require a higher level of intelligence to figure them out- then you would get less posts from idiots too!

Ha-ha @ Chance's suggestion. I think it's a go-er
I'm using a combination of Spam Karma 2 (eaten 32118 spams so far) and the Bad Behavious plugin as recommended by SarahG. So far, the combination has worked very well. The only spam that tends to get through occasionally is human input spam (unfortunately, these morons will probably be able to handle basic math. Perhaps a moral question might stump them…) and trackbacks from splogs.

I had a bad experience with Spam Karma- it blocked my IP from my own site and as a result I couldn't log in to disable it!
I had to log in from the neighbor's house to kill the plugin.

What happens if you're just plain stupid?

How about a calculus problem? Or a bit of trig
I've found recently that I've had more problems with human spam which, as mentioned, no question protection will protect you from (unless you use calculus!).

How about an image based login where you have to choose an image based on a question? That would work well, I think.
I might just make the maths questions harder
