This Is Your Daily Reminder

This is your daily reminder to keep an eye on your expiring domains!

I just visited one of my sites, to be greeted with an ad filled domain holding page. The domain had expired and I'd forgotten to renew it. Luckily I just caught it in time, and was able to get it back. Had I not decided to visit the site, I may not have been so lucky.

It's a mistake everyone has made at some point. If you have an important domain, consider using a registrar which supports "auto renewing" it every year, or register it for a number of years up front.

Must be that time of year… last night I was checking out my sites and realized that a couple of my sites had expired. Luckily I was able to get them back. It sure doesn't hurt to have the auto-renew. Or at least have something around to remind you that it's coming due.

Yeah, I keep $20 or so in my Namecheap account for basically this reason- I set them all to auto renew and if I miss the warning email or forget to log in and renew them with the credit card for whatever reason Namecheap will automatically renew them with the account balance. Transferring $20 over from my PayPal account seemed like cheap insurance against losing a domain I have been developing for a couple years :)
