2007, a year in review

At the end of 2006, I didn't really set myself a target for 2007 except to say that I wanted to earn $100k from online ventures. That was really a mistake as I had not done any planning for how I was actually going to make the cash. As you can probably guess, I failed to make this target, and by quite a margin. Oh well.

2007 for me, was a year of intense lows, and muted highs. During the first part of the year I rested on my laurels and made very little progress towards my $100k aim. I should really have been exploring new opportunities rather than waste my time on fruitless stuff.

I bought a offline business to run on eBay - as of yet I still have not started selling! Procrastination killed this one, stone dead. I'm going to look at starting this one up in Q1 this year.

In the summer, we had really bad floods, no electricity for a while. Also the loss of a family member. I'm still not really up to speed with things because of this.

The loss to me, was a body blow, as this person raised me and instilled in me my values and ethics. I think it's going to take a long, long time to get over this. To be honest, I considered just getting out of the online stuff completely and making a total change - I started selling off lots of sites and products in order to extricate myself from "online marketing".

I even applied for a job! I got interviewed, told the owner of the business what I had earned in the past year. Suffice to say that this obviously put them off, as I never heard back from them. Ah well ;) I'm quite glad about not going any further with this as I don't think I'm cut out for the 9-5 grind anymore.

In the latter part of the year, I sold off more sites and made a nice profit.

So, just what do I have left?

- I have just a few "adsense earners". Literally 2 or 3 as I see Adsense as "beer money" rather than a way to earn real money. I don't like being at the mercy of Google for my income.

- I have still got lots of sites that sell products. These products are generally aimed at "Internet Marketers", though I have some which are not.

- I have a couple of other blogs that I write on now and then. These are unmonetised as they are an outlet for me, and nothing else.

- I still have some Affiliate Earnings, but this is not something that I am overly interested in expanding.

- I have a monthly subscription based service which is going quite well.

All in all, 2007 was a crappy year. I was lazy. I lost a family member, after that I just couldn't be bothered. 2008 will be different (post to follow)!

    Burt,

Out of interest how do you go about planning your new sites.

Indeed, procrastination is a big killer of my projects. I am also aiming for the 100k mark this year, half of which I intend to make solely from CCT.

I don't really plan new sites, they just "happen". Mainly, if I am looking for something and cannot find it online, I make a site to fill that gap in the market…

    Good luck with CCT.
