Gotta think up a good name!

I added my "Scratch Back A Like" script to the sidebar in this blog. It's right underneath the "Recent Comments". Feel free to grab a link ;)

Think up a name

Need to think up a name for this script. I was chatting to an online buddy yesterday, and mentioned that I had coded something up, but didn't want to sell or support it. He thought it would be good to give it away in return for a backlink.

I thought the idea was interesting - so I need to think up a good name for the script. Can't call it "Scratch Back A Like" can I. Then I might see about tidying it up a bit and releasing it. Might even start a marketplace of users, or maybe someone else will (hint hint).

Are you interested?

Is there any interest in getting the script? It's not worth my time making it into a Wdiget only to see that no-one is really interested. Please make a post in the comment section if you can see any value in the script or if you think it is totally crapola.

How is it different to Scratch Back?

Well, IF I release it;

  • I'll give no support
  • I'll take no commission
  • It can be designed by you, to fit your blog completely
  • I'll want 1 linkback from every site it's used on

In essence, if you need support/help/tuition/hand holding, then you need to go to someone who can offer this. In return they will want payment. If you have enough skill to be able to amend your template, FTP and copy/paste then you might want to consider using my script.

A Marketplace for link sellers

I'm sure that the Scratch Back people have something like this planned - it's definitely needed. If I release my version, I think it would be quite easy to make a little site on which people can add their own sites that use the script.

In fact my own Top 100 script would probably be enough (at least as an interim measure).

Anyway, first things first, please help me think of a good name for the script as it presently stands. Thanks!

    You can count me in as interested if you widgetize this one :)

    Sure thing. Though it's not a widget at the moment, it's now easy as 123 to install.

    Another good reason to use a self-made script in preference to Scratch Back;

    ~ you get immediate paypal funds.

    With Scratch Back you have to wait until you make $25 in order to get paid. Now, if you have a site running a $1, or even a site running $5, you have to make a fair few "sales" before reaching that thresh-hold. With a self-made solution like mine you get immediate paypal payment on each sale! Gotta be better?

    Also, the Anchor Text is limited to just 20 characters on Scratch Back. For a company like "Digital Product Delivery" it's almost impossible for them to use - as those three words consist of 24 characters (including blank spaces).

    I've been trying to buy a link on Marks 45n5 blog (using Scratch Back), but can't get my Anchor Text small enough to convey a message but also make plain sense :( Surely, that's a bad sign - it's $10 (before middleman fees) that Mark has lost.

    I'd be willing to give it a try.

    OK, so I've spent a little more time on this and have come up with something "workable".

    The whole thing consists of;

    1. 1 new file to upload to your website.
    2. 1 change to make in the header file of your theme.
    3. 1 (possibly 2, depending upon certain factors) change(s) to make in the sidebar of your theme.
    4. Log into Paypal to make a payment button.

    I estimate 5 minutes all told for installation. Then 30 seconds work to add new links as and when you sell a link.

    The name I chose is "ez linkz".

    I'm hurt you didn't consider the name I suggested. I know when I think of "scratch" anything I certainly think of the body part I suggested before I think of my back.
